CALVARY CHAPEL SOMERSET WEST began as a Wednesday night home fellowship from Calvary Chapel Cape Town. The fellowship started with just a handful of people as the LORD stirred DeBeer and Ridri’s hearts to open up their home to teach the Word of God, early in 2006. As the LORD blessed, we started growing slowly, and spiritual fruit started showing, as people were drawn to the simple teaching of God’s Word. During 2008, the LORD called DeBeer into full-time ministry, and in January 2009, the Church was officially planted when we opened for our first Sunday service.

The LORD has done a wonderful work of grace in the hearts of those who gather here, and we believe that the love of Jesus Christ defines who we are. We stand in awe as we look at what God is doing in our midst, and we know that it is not by our power or might, but by God’s Holy Spirit alone. We are excited and looking forward to what the LORD is still going to do in Somerset West.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.
– Zechariah 4:6

Calvary Chapel

In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at a small non-denominational Church called Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California, with just 25 people. From the beginning, Pastor Chuck welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, placing his emphasis on the teaching of the Word of God. By God's grace, this simple, yet sound, Biblical approach eventually drew 25,000 people weekly.

With a sincere concern for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his heart and his home for a generation of hippies and surfers. Then God poured out His Holy Spirit on the Church in a great way, generating what is historically known as the Jesus Movement, and it spread from the West Coast to the East Coast, and eventually throughout the world. What began as a small local church has now grown into an international ministry of over 1,800 fellowships throughout the world. Today, in addition to these dynamic ministries, Calvary Chapel's Bible College provides Bible education to thousands at its home campus in Murietta, California, and at over 40 extension campuses world wide.
